HOW IT HAPPENEDAfter a fourth-place prelims showing in the 200 fly, Padric Mckervill rebounded to win the gold medal in the finals with a time of 1:59.36.Going 1-2 in the 200 breast finals, Erin Epp and Sophie Tarrant claimed the gold and silver medals with times of 2:29.59 and 2:30.03, respectively.Yasmin Perry finished second in the 200 fly finals with a time of 2:12.93 to medal in all three butterfly events at the conference championships.Adding a silver to her medal count, Lauren Crisp swam the 100 back in 1:01.00 to take second place, recording a lifetime best in the process.Sweeping the bronze medal position in all three relays at the meet, the Vikes women's squad of Crisp, Tarrant, Perry, and Cameron Hill took third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:07.20.Winning both the men's A and B Finals of the 200 fly, Jack Savage took the top spot in the B Final with a time of 2:09.15.As teams, the Vikes women took third place with 547.5 points, and the Vikes men finished fourth with 351 points.Olivia Roschat was named the Canada West Community Service Award winner for the second-straight year following the meet.Overall, the Vikes finished with four gold, three silver, and eight bronze for a total of 15 medals. Overall, we had a good meet, especially with all the challenges we've faced this fall with having to overcome reduced training frequencies and the loss of two preparation meets, so we had some good results despite those challenges.Erin Epp's swims got progressively better from day one through today, resulting in the unexpected 1-2 200 breaststroke finish with good swims from her and Sophie Tarrant. The men's side will need to get a bit sharper in the mornings to take the next step and make up some of the point difference, as there were B Final swims that would have placed in the A Final had the prelim swims been there.
