Vikes host WolfPack, Cascades in final home weekend of 2022

VICTORIA – Coming off two wins over the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria women's basketball team will close the 2022 home portion of its schedule against Thompson Rivers University and the University of the Fraser Valley, Feb. 11-12.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes sit at 8-4 on the season, which ranks third in the Canada West west division. Victoria is on a six-game win streak, the best in the west division and second-best in Canada West.
  • Friday's game against the WolfPack will be the team's annual Shoot for the Cure game. Made three-pointers, free throws, and rebounds by the Vikes will raise money for the cause, in addition to various other promotions throughout the night, including a donation multiplier free throw series by UVic President Kevin Hall.   • Thompson Rivers is 1-15 on the season, coming to Victoria on a nine-game losing skid. UFV holds a record of 10-2, ranking second in the division.
  • UVic and TRU have met twice already this season, Jan. 28-29, with the Vikes bringing home 71-51 and 78-75 wins from Kamloops, B.C. Saturday's game will be the first regular season meeting between UFV and Victoria.
  • UVic's Ashlyn Day was named the Canada West Player of the Week, Feb. 8. Her weekend was highlighted by a 42-point performance, Feb. 4, which set a new Canada West single-game scoring record for the 2021-22 season.
  • Day's 22.0 points per game average leads all players in Canada West, while her 43.5% three-point average is good for third in the conference.
  • The Cascades have a pair of shooters ranked among the top of the league, with Julia Tuchscherer's 51.5% field goal percentage ranking fourth and Madison Draayers' 52.9% three-point percentage ranking first in Canada West.

The Vikes will face off against the Cascades in Abbotsford, B.C., with games set for Feb. 18 and 19.
