Calgary, Alta. – The University of Victoria men's and women's basketball teams begin postseason play, beginning competition at the Canada West playoffs Saturday, March 5 in Calgary, Alta. The men will play at the University of Lethbridge, while the women will play at the University of Calgary.

NEWS & NOTES
- For the first time in conference history, all 17 teams in Canada West are advancing to the playoffs. This season, all teams head to Calgary, Alta. for a three-round, single-elimination tournament to determine the teams that will advance to the Canada West Final Four.
- The Vikes men claimed the second overall seed in the league after posting a 17-1 record in Canada West play this season. The two seed places the Vikes in the quarterfinals, and in a "win-and-in" situation to punch their ticket to the final four. The Vikes will face the winner of the UBCO/Lethbridge matchup, set to take place today, March 4.
- The Vikes women head to Calgary as the ninth seed after posting an 11-7 mark in conference action. UVic will take on the host Calgary Dinos in the second round, with the winner advancing to face Saskatchewan in the quarterfinals Sunday, March 6.
- On the women's side, Ashlyn Day was named a Canada West First Team All-Star after leading both the Vikes and Canada West competition in scoring this season with a 19.7 points per game average. Day also set a Canada West season record for most points in a single game, scoring 42 against UBC, Feb. 4.
- For the men, four Vikes saw selections to the Canada West All-Star teams, led by Scott Kellum's first team nod. Diego Maffia collected second team accolades, while Ethan Boag and Elias Ralph were award all-rookie team designations.
- After the final week of regular season action, the Vikes swept the Canada West Player of the Week honours, with Day and Kellum earning the accolade for their performances.
- As a team, the Vikes men rank at the top of the conference with a 92.3 points per game average. The women rank in the top-10 in the same category, holding eighth place with a 69.6 points per game average.
- Individually, Maffia leads the Vikes with a 17.5 points per game average. Dominick Oliveri leads UVic with a 9.0 rebounds per game average.
- While Day leads the Vikes and conference with her 19.7 points per game average, Aleah Ashlee leads UVic with a 7.4 rebounds per game average, as well as with a team-leading three double-doubles this season.
