San Antonio, Texas – The University of Victoria men's golf team captured the 2023 Continental Athletic Conference championship title for the second-straight season while the Vikes' women's golf team finished second at the conference tournament, May 1-2 at the Golf Club of Texas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men's Field (54 holes, Par 72, 7136 Yards)
- After firing rounds of 70 and 72 to finish in a tie for first place individually after the first day of competition, Zach Ryujin carded a final round 70 to finish -4 overall and capture the CAC individual champion title.
- Finishing day one at -2 overall, Aiden Craig-Steele shot a 73 in his final round to finish at -1 overall and in second place individually.
- Holding fourth place after rounds of 73 and 71 on the first day of action, Liam Mosher improved one spot and ended in a tie for third place with a third-round 72 to finish with an even scorecard.
- After an opening-round 76, Robin Conlan fired back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish +6 and in sixth place overall.
- Holding a +17 overall mark after day one rounds of 82 and 79, Chase Basanta fired his tournament-best round of 72 on day two to take 13th individually.
- As a team, the Vikes claimed first place and the CAC Championships with an even overall scorecard after an opening-round score of 291, followed by two under-par rounds at 286 and 287. The Vikes were the only team on the men's side to shoot under-par as a team in any round.
- The men's team has earned an automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Golf Championships, set for May 16-19 in Mesa, Ariz.
Women's Field (36 holes, Par 72, 5999 Yards)
- Finishing in the runner-up position individually, Sukriti Harjai led the Vikes' women's side with rounds of 73 and 72 to finish +1 overall.
- Dropping three strokes from her first-round 78, Mirai Hayashi carded a 75 during the second round to finish +9 overall and in a tie for fourth place individually.
- Tying for eighth place, Kathleen Hodgson shot rounds of 79 and 80 to end at +15 overall.
- Fiona McCombe finished in 12th place with rounds of 82 and 81 for an overall +19.
- Rounding out the Vikes' five was Taylor Adam, who fired back-to-back rounds of 83 for a +22 overall card and in a tie for 15th individually.
- As a team, the women finished second overall, tallying an overall 312 in round one and 308 in round two.

The Vikes men will head to the NAIA championships, May 16-19 in Mesa, Ariz. The Vikes find out their postseason fate May 12 when the championship qualifiers are announced.
