Vikes men tied for first, women in second at Canadian University/College Championships

Komoka, Ont. - The University of Victoria men's golf team is tied for first place while the Vikes' women's golf team sits in second after two rounds of play at the halfway point of the Canadian University/College Championships, May 31.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A combined +2 after the first round of play and in second place as a team, the Vikes' men's side shot a field-best five-under in round two to end the second day of compeition at -3 overall and in a tie for first place.
  • Climbing two spots from their round one finish, the Vikes' women's team also carded the team-low round of the day at +3 overall, moving in to second place with a combined tally of +21 through 36 holes.
  • Liam Mosher and Robin Conlan lead the Vikes on the men's side, sitting tied for second and tied for sixth at -4 and -2 through two rounds, respectively. Conlan led the Vikes in round one with a three-under showing, while Mosher shot four-under in round two to lead the Vikes.
  • Sukriti Harjai and Cindy Koira hold top-10 individual places to lead the women's side in fourth and eighth places at +3 and +7 overall, respectively. Koira carded the Vikes-low round on day one at +3 overall, while Harjai led the Vikes in round two after firing a -2.
  • Making the biggest jump of any Vike, Aiden Craig-Steele moved up 21 spots on the individual leaderboard in round two, carding a two-under 70 on day two and hold an overall score of +1.
  • A par-72 round for Zach Ryujin moved him in to top-20 position after two rounds, tying for 17th individually at +2 overall.
  • Dropping 13 strokes from her round one result, Mirai Hayashi climbed 11 places in the individual standings to 18th after firing a one-over 74 in round two.
  • Also making a double-digit improvement from round one was Chase Basanta, who went from a round one 88 to a 76 in round two to hold an overall +16 and sit tied for 89th.
  • Kathleen Hodgson sits in a tie for 29th at +21 overall to round out the women's field.

The Vikes play the third and fourth rounds to complete the national championship, June 1 and 2 at FireRock Golf Course.
