Seattle, Wash. & Edmonton, Alta. – The University of Victoria track teams recorded four U SPORTS auto-qualifying performances in their first competitions of the season, Jan. 17-18 at the University of Washington's UW Preview and University of Alberta's Golden Bears Open.

Vikes earn U SPORTS auto-qualifying times in four events
- At UW, Marisha Thompson grabbed an auto-qualifier spot in the 3000m, taking eighth overall in the event with a time of 9:20.38.
- In Edmonton, David Waller secured his spot in the 1000m with a 2:24.68 performance, which was also good for second place in the event.
- Also at the Golden Bears Open, both the men's and women's 4x800m relay teams met the national qualifying standards. The men's side of Nolan Galloway, Tate O'Brien, David Waller, and Jack Boden came in at 7:39.32, securing the top finish in the event, while the women's side of Elissa Frielink, Elisabeth McDowell-Mitchell, Delaney Chan, and Erin Owens posted a qualifying mark of 9:02.53, finishing second overall.
Abbott sets new personal best
- Hailey Abbott's time of 10:01.84 in the 3000m at the UW Preview marked a new personal best, dropping over 15 seconds from her previous personal best time.
Vikes add eight top-five individual finishes
- Taking second and third in both the men's and women's 1000m races, David Waller and Jack Boden finished second and third with time of 2:24.68 and 2:25.40, respectively, on the men's side, while Delaney Chan and Erin Owens finished second (2:51.24) and third (2:52.23) on the women's side.
- Adding a top-five finish in each of the 600m races, Elisabeth McDowell-Mitchell finished second in the women's race at 1:33.04, while Tate O'Brien took fourth in the men's race after a 1:20.02 showing.
- Elissa Frielink and Samara Cockburn rounded out the top-five finishes for the Vikes, with Frielink taking second in the 1500m at 4:35.21, and Cockburn finishing fifth in the 3000m with a time of 10:44.94.
