Track set for U SPORTS championships in Windsor

VICTORIA - The University of Victoria track teams head to the University of Windsor for the 2025 BioSteel U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, March 6-8.

NEWS & NOTES
  • The Vikes will be represented by 12 athletes at the national championship meet, marking the largest Vikes contingent at U SPORTS under head coach Hilary Stellingwerff.
  • Tate O'Brien and Elisabeth McDowell-Mitchell will open the meet for the Victoria, taking part in the 600m prelims on Thursday, March 6. Finals will be held on Saturday, March 8.
  • On Friday, the Vikes will see David Waller compete in the 1000m, as well as Marisha Thompson, Elissa Frielink, and Daniel Damian in the 3000m. The final events of the day will have the Vikes competing in the 4x800m relays.
  • Along with the 600m finals Saturday, Thompson and Jack Boden will race in the 1500m on the final day of competition. 
  • Victoria is coming off a seven-medal showing at the Canada West championships, Feb. 21-22, marking the most medals won by the program since the eight captured by the 2018 team. The Vikes won three medals in the 3000m (Marisha Thompson - Gold, Elissa Frielink - Silver, Daniel Damian - Bronze), a gold medal in the men's 4x800m relay, and bronze in the 1000m (David Waller), 1500m (Erin Owens), and 600m (Elisabeth McDowell-Mitchell). 
  • At the 2024 national championships, the Vikes competed in the men's and women's 3000m, women's 1500m, and men's and women's 4x800m relays, finishing top 10 in all five events.
