LANGLEY, BC - A 21-point effort from third year forward #Carmen Lapthorne# keyed the UVic Vikes women's basketball team's 68-62 comeback win over the Trinity Western Spartans.

Lapthorne led the Vikes in scoring with 21 points and shot 9-17 from the field. The Victoria native and Camosun College transfer, sank two three-pointers late in the third quarter, as part of an 8-0 Vikes run that helped erase the Spartans nine-point lead.
After regaining the lead at the conclusion of the third, the Vikes carried their momentum into the final frame. The Vikes forced the Spartans to miss their first eight shots of the quarter, while building an 11-point lead, the largest of the game, with five minutes remaining.
#Natalie Jannssens# picked up her second double-double of the season, with 11 points and a game high 11 rebounds. #Vanessa Forstbauer# chipped in nine points and #Kayla Dykstra# and #Debbie Yeboah# contributed eight apiece, as the Vikes improved their record to 2-2.
Trinity Western dropped to 1-4 with the loss. Lauren Doubroff and Emily Knauff led the Spartans in scoring, contributing 19 and 15 respectively.
The two Pacific Division rivals traded leads in the opening quarters. The Vikes led through the first quarter before Trinity Western regained the lead in the second, before both teams drew even 36-36 at halftime.
The Vikes and Spartans complete the weekend twin bill Saturday night with a 5 p.m. tip-off at the Langley Events Centre. The game will be broadcast live on SpartansTV at: www.gospartans.ca
