LANGLEY, BC - A frantic fourth quarter failed to produce a win for the UVic Vikes women's basketball team, who mounted a 16-0 run but came out on the losing end of a 62-58 decision to the Trinity Western Spartans.

BOXSCORE

The Vikes opened the final frame with 13 unanswered points, and temporarily snared a three-point lead with three minutes remaining. The Vikes lead, their first since the opening tip, was short-lived as the Spartans scored six unanswered to regain control and earn the weekend split.

Seven different players scored in the Vikes epic run that began at the end of the third quarter. The Vikes defence held Trinity Western scoreless for a span of six and a half minutes, until Spartans guard Amanda Knauff scored with 4:24 left in regulation.

Knauff and Trinity Western post Lauren Doubroff shared the game scoring highs with 18 apiece. Doubroff also grabbed 11 rebounds, had six steals, and sank two free-throws to end the game, finishing 8-8 at the stripe.

#Kayla Dykstra# shot 5-10 from the floor, and led the Vikes in scoring with 17 points. The fourth year post completed the double-double with 10 'boards. #Debbie Yeboah# added 10 points, and #Kristen Hughes# provided a spark off the bench with nine points - six of those coming in the fourth quarter.

The Vikes shot 49 percent from the field. In the first half, UVic was hard-pressed to miss, making 12-18, yet trailed 37-30 at the break. The Vikes were hampered by turnovers, committing 28.
