Dykstra, Vikes rebound to clip Cascades

ABBOTSFORD - With a 21-point effort from Kayla Dykstra, the no. 2 ranked UVic Vikes stayed perfect in league play with a 70-59 victory over the Fraser Valley Cascades.

Dykstra spurred the Vikes on a second half comeback, scoring 14 of her points over the final two quarters, to negate a 32-19 halftime lead by the home team. Dykstra also added seven rebounds and finished 9-for-12 from the floor.

Early on, with the shots not falling and the Cascades capitalizing, the Vikes trailed by as many as 18 points before the halftime break. However, the game swung in the third with a 32-point output for the Vikes. UVic would finish the second half making 60 percent of their shots.

Cassandra Goodis and Vanessa Forstbauser, who were held off the scoresheet in the first, both netted seven points over the final two quarters. Debbie Yeboah added 10 points to help the Vikes improve to 7-0 in Canada West play.

Fraser Valley guard Alexa McCarthy came off the bench to led the home side with 11 points. Courtney Bartel and rookie Sarah Wierks each added nine.

The weekend series concludes Saturday night with a 6 p.m. tip-off in Abbotsford.
