VICTORIA - The University of Victoria Vikes women's basketall team look to rebound off a winless weekend against the Fraser Valley Cascades and find some points this weekend against UBC Okanagan, Nov. 15-16. The teams will square off for a double header, where both teams will have a chance to improve their current 1-3 records in the Canada West.

There are five teams in the Pacific Division with a 1-3 record including the Heat and Vikes, while the Cascades dominate the league along with Saskatchewan with perfect 4-0 records. Victoria currently rank second in the conference in three-point percentage at 39.3 per cent. 

The Vikes are currently led by fourth year Jessica Renfrew who averages 12.5 points-per-game and led the Vikes in scoring last weekend, Nov. 8-9, in both games. Despite going winless for three games the Vikes have been forced to overcome a variety of injuries and illnesses but despite the setbacks the gaps have left head coach Dani Sinclair the opportunity to showcase the depth of her bench.

Third-year guards Shaylyn Crisp and Jenny Lewis have now started to show their stripes after two seasons of quiet play under a handful of veteran players. Crisp now leads the team in three-point percentage making five of seven attempts over four games, while Lewis is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points-per-game. 

Point guard Cassandra Goodis was unable to compete in Saturday's game after a shoulder injury but the fourth-year veteran has been pivotal all pre-season and in the opening three Canada West games. On top of being third in scoring on the team, Goodis has been the quarter back to all of the Vikes' success, leading the team with 11 assists and an average of 6.7 rebounds-per-game. 

Rounding out the core of the team is the two-way play of last year's conference Rookie of the Year Jenna Bugiardini. After an exciting pre-season, the second year has not dominated in the regular season but showed flashes of her gritty defence and quick ball movement returning in the past two games. Bugiardini along with fifth-year forward Sarah Semeniuk provide most of the height and defence for the squad that boasts seven players in their first or second year.

The Heat are coming off a split weekend against Mount Royal. UBC Okanagan defeated the Cougars 80-73 on Nov. 7 but Mount Royal rallied back to take the game 73-70 on Nov. 8. Sarah Allison has been the undisputed scoring leader of the Heat, leading the team in double-digit scoring in three of four games. Allison had 20 poitns in the Saturday loss and currently averages 14 poits-per-game. Emily Kanester is the next highest scorer with an average of 9.8 points-per-game. Both Kanester and Allison have been regular starters along side Krystal Schouten and Kayla McFadden. 

The Vikes and Heat will play first on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. at Kenyon Court in Kelowna, B.C., and again on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. Both games will be streamed with live video and stats at http://canadawest.tv
