Cross country captures team titles at Stewart Cup

Calgary, Alta. – The University of Victoria cross country teams swept the team titles at the Stewart Cup in a preview of the Canada West Championships, Oct. 12 at West Confederation Park.
 
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Vikes sweep team titles against Canada West competition
  • Facing all nine Canada West cross country programs, the Vikes came out on top on both men's and women's side. The women's side finished with 43 points for the win, while the men's side took first with 58 points.
Coates, Owens and Thompson post top-10 finishes
  • Leading the way for the Vikes' women's side was Elise Coates, who posted the top finish of fifth place with a time of 27:23.27.
  • Erin Owens and Marisha Thompson finished right behind, taking sixth and seventh places with times of 27:33.22 and 27:43.81, respectively.
Damian leads Vikes' men's side
  • Daniel Damian led the Vikes men with a fourth-place, 23:43.86 performance.
All Vikes scorers finish in the top 20
  • All 10 of the Vikes scoring performances finished in the top 20 individually.
  • Along with the top-10 finishes from Coates, Owens and Thompson on the women's side were Colette Reimer and Delaney Chan, who took 11th and 14th at 28:18.66 and 28:46.48, respectively.
  • After Damian, Jacob Webster (12th – 24:09.29), Hayden Woodrow (14th - 24:19.66), Marcus Ganz (15th - 24:25.44), and Ian McAllister (16th - 24:28.18) rounded out the top five for the Vikes men.
