While swimming for UVic under the guidance of Dr. Peter Vizsolyi from 1984-86, Pamela Leila Rai set five Canadian University records and was named the 1985 Canadian University Swimmer of the Year.

Her seven years on the Canadian national team began at the 1980 Canadian Olympic trials in Toronto, where, racing against much older competition, she placed 3rd in the 50m freestyle.

The next year she won six medals, including gold in the 50m freestyle at the Canada Games. In 1984, Pamela’s longtime dream of Olympic competition came true as she represented Canada at the Los Angeles Games. In one of her proudest moments, Pamela and her teammates captured bronze in the 4x100m medley relay and set a new Canadian record.

Rai is also a member of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and the BC Swimming Hall of Fame.
