University of Victoria Athletics

Fourteen teammates combined to produce one of the greatest dynasties in the history of Canadian University athletics as the University of Victoria Vikes men’s cross country team claimed CIAU National Championships for four-straight years from 1994-97.

Along the way the team claimed 16 first or second team All-Canadian nods while head coach Brent Fougner earned four-straight CIAU Coach of the Year accolades.
Winning the first men’s cross country national championship in UVic history in 1994, the team would then go on to dominate the Canadian University running scene for the next four years with their four-straight titles being a national record at the time.

Starting the dynasty with an upset victory over the No. 1 ranked Windsor Lancers, the Vikes then claimed their next three titles by a combined total of 1114 points, including winning the 1996 title by an astonishing 72 points a record margin of victory that still stands today.
