The late Wally Milligan had a long association with soccer in the Victoria community. Milligan began his prolific soccer career in Scotland, UK where he played professionally for Airdie, Dumbarton, Aldershot and East Stirling. Milligan arrived in New Westminster, BC in 1948. Two years later he moved to Victoria where his dedication to the community took off.

Milligan was a member of the 1951-52 Victoria United Soccer Club, which captured the Pacific Coast Soccer League Championship. After a successful playing career, Wally turned to coaching where he served as the founding coach of the University of Victoria Men's Soccer Team, a position he held from 1964 until 1971.

Wally's outstanding dedication and contribution to the University Soccer program was acknowledged with a special award presented to him by his former players during the Alumni Soccer Weekend in 1998.
